SF-ACTIVE v0.9 RELEASED

The new release of sf-active v0.9 is now available! There have been a lot of changes during this long development cycle since v0.5 (the last public release), but we are now at a stable and mature point. The general plan is to have regular releases now which can be easily and quickly deployed to many indymedia sites.

    * NEW SF-ACTIVE WEBSITE
      We have relocated the official sf-active website with a new design and more consistent translation. This website should be your starting point for all sf-active inquiries. You can go to: http://sfactive.indymedia.org/ or http://sfa.indymedia.org/

    * IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING UPGRADES
      All sf-active sites should immediately upgrade to the latest sf-active. By doing this, your site will be able to receive immediate upgrades when new sf-active versions are released.

      To find out which version you are currently running, go to: http://yourname.indymedia.org/version.php ... if the version shown is less than 0.9 or you get a "file not found" error, you need to be upgraded! Please contact imc-sf-active@indymedia.org to schedule an upgrade for your site.

      Any sites on staughton or ahimsa servers are close to being fully upgraded. Sites on linefeed servers in San Francisco are now scheduled to be upgraded to the latest sf-active version. Please get in touch with your system administrator to find out more details for your specific indymedia.

    * DOCUMENTATION
      Documentation is available on the web, updated nightly from CVS. Please go to http://sfa.indymedia.org/docs/ to view the latest sf-active docs.

    * SUPPORT QUESTIONS
      All support questions should be sent to imc-sf-active@indymedia.org, or browse the list archives at: http://lists.indymedia.org/imc-sf-active

    * IRC SUPPORT
      As always, we are available in indymedia irc in #sfkids or #sf-active. For java irc access, go to http://sf.indymedia.org/irc/

    * REPORTING BUGS
      If you have specific bugs or feature requests, please use the bug tracking system at http://bugs.sfimc.net/ -- it is easy to use and allows us to keep track of requests.

    * CHANGES IN THIS RELEASE
      For all a complete list, see the CHANGES file from cvs.

Changes: Although this list is incomplete, it gives a good understanding of the many changes in sf-active since the last major public release. * The lengthy process of converting sf-active to a PEAR-style, object-oriented architecture is now 98% completed and 100% tested on live sites. A full explanation of this architecture is forthcoming. Almost all system logic is now shared and extensible. * Documentation is more and more up to date, with translations of the docs now for Nederlands, Italian, French, English. * The administration system has been completely redesigned with a lot of additional functionality added. * Complete internationalization is now finished with sf-active dictionaries for English, Spanish, Netherlands, French, Italian, Turkish, Serbian, Catalan (85%), Portuguese (50%), Slovak (50%). * Internationalization is now shared for easy server-wide updating of many sf-active sites in many different languages. A local directory can override any dictionary file for site-specific customization. * There is now a preview for publishing that allows you to correct text or html errors before committing an article. * Supported article types include text, html, PDF document, SMIL file, MP3, Ogg Vorbis, RealAudio, RealVideo, MP3 playlist, MP3 stream, Windows Media audio, MPEG video, Quicktime, Windows Media video and AVI video. * Almost all SF-specific content has been removed from cvs. * The SF-specific 'redstone' directory has been replaced by the 'sitename' directory. * User passwords are now encrypted (notice SQL changes and patches to upgrade existing installations). * Added calendar administration code to manage event types, topics and locations. * Hidden articles now have a noindex header to prevent them from being crawled by google. (bug #155) * Syndication is now implemented for the calendar. * Various script directories have been consolidated into one. * Website /features/ are now run out of the database rather than manuallycreated. (bug #50) * Mailing list pages now use templates and are fully internationalized. (bug #185) * Fixed blank title publishes with cache_class error. (bug #164) * Fixed category default template was not being selected. (bug #166) * Fixed article edit quoting problem. (bug #165) * Template files and other miscellaneous system files can now be updated through the admin system. (bug #41) * Calendar now uses the current year as a starting point for drop-down menus. (bug #153) * Fixed bug with setting theme color in certain contexts producing an error screen. (bug #183) * Fixed single feature archiving. (bug #144) * Fixed problems with copying a feature to another category. (bug #178) * Deleted article_html_handler and article_text_handler files and subsumed them in shared classes. (bug #122)
